Now Hiring: Upholstery Assistant

Join our team of skilled craftspeople who seek to improve the quality of the built environment in Detroit and Southeast Michigan. Challenging and exciting work available for candidates that are highly organized and efficient. 

Responsibilities include:

  • Make, restore, and/or create custom upholstered furniture, using hand tools and knowledge of fabrics and upholstery methods.

  • Read work orders, and apply knowledge and experience with materials in order to determine types and amounts of materials required to cover workpieces.

  • Fit, install, and secure material on frames, using hand tools, power tools, glue, cement, and/or staples.

  • Draw cutting lines on material following patterns, templates, sketches, or blueprints, using chalk, pencils, paint, or other methods.

  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor

 

Additional Responsibilities:

  • On occasion may be asked to assist in our woodshop, a high proficiency in a variety of power and hand tools, woodworking machinery, and maintenance setup is desired.

  • Knowledgeable of millwork and finish carpentry techniques. 

  • Responsible for maintaining a clean work environment in compliance with company policy.

  • Follows production schedule and performs all work in accordance with Company quality, security, safety plans, procedures, and standards.

  • Performs all work in accordance with Company standards and safety requirements: Wears required personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, and optional PPE such as hearing and breathing protection depending on tasks being performed.

  • May install hardware, such as hinges, catches, and drawer pulls.

  • May assist others with daily tasks, techniques, and jobs.

  • Uses machinery in a proper and safe manner.

Requirements:

  • Must have a valid driver’s license.

  • Prefer a background in woodworking and upholstery, and knowledge of hardware a plus.

  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds occasionally during installations, deliveries, and sourcing. 

  • Must be able to work in a production facility with/without air conditioning and with production noise and dust.

 

Opportunities for subcontract work are negotiable.
